Freedom and Roam Uganda (FARUG) as an LBQ-led feminist organization continues to advocate and lobby for the rights of LBQ womxn, reinforcing feminist principles, challenging patriarchy and heteronormativity, and strives to create safe, autonomous spaces for diverse women in Uganda.
As an organization, we witness daily how the combination of state-sanctioned homophobia and deep-seated patriarchal structures create a unique landscape of violence against LBQ womxn. Democracy cannot flourish where an entire community is subjected to Severe Human Rights Violations, Gender-Based Violations, Shrinking Civic spaces. When policies and laws are weaponized to institutionalize discrimination, true democracy cannot exist when the voices of LBQ womxn are silenced and their bodily autonomy is criminalized.
