Since it is mid-year, as part of our monthly check-ins, August was evaluating our state of programs and engagements, and here is a glimpse of what went down. Enjoy.

SOCIAL FRIDAY IMPACT AND FEEDBACK

We were delighted to avail yet another safe space to share insightful impacts and feedback on how the social Fridays have had on our womxn community. Social Fridays have been a culture that has long lived at the borne of our organizing as we create autonomous and candid safe spaces, social Fridays play a role of social informative and interactive sessions,  that come in form of strengthening Activist leadership through leveraging on opportunities Feminist Leadership trainings, , Mental Health spaces, women day’s celebrating etc. Womxn community got to share how impactful and meaningful the social Fridays have had and how they are utilizing these skills and knowledge in their day-to-day lives. In the other hand, this social Friday was of assess and value the impact and suggest how best these social Fridays should be done but also a tool to shape our organization activities. #Social Fridays.

CONVERSATION ON HOW TO DEAL WITH TOXIC FAMILY MEMBERS.

In most times, LBQ womxn have sought refuge with their family, however, this has always come at a cost that surfaces in toxicity. Families may look like biological, family members, created families, relationships.  Alongside discrimination and violations; blackmails, black tax, sexual abuse, and forced marriages are some of the many experienced by womxn due to their sexual orientation and gender. However, these have influenced womxn to live and express themselves unauthentically hence poor decision-making, increasing mental health challenges and unhealthy behaviors, drug and substance abuse, as means of coping with their toxic families. Therefore, this safe space offered ground solutions and coping mechanisms of how to deal with toxic family members through the different shared experiences and measures by the womxn members. With this, our womxn members are able to live authentically and aware and conscious of how to maneuver through their families despite the toxicity. #SocialFridays

DIRECTORS’ FORUM; WELLBEING AND CARE

Wellbeing and care continues to be a stimulus in the day-to-day lives for womxn leaders, with heavy effects from the community work and fatigue that result into burnouts, stress, and anxiety among others, this forum focused on the importance, of wellbeing and care as leaders, highlighting the element of building boundaries, as a mastery of wellbeing and care. The Director’s forum was also a reminder to the womxn leaders to prioritize their mental health and general wellbeing as they continue to operate through their works.
