LOVE, HEALING, RESILIENCE AND HISTORY

As February unfolds, we continue to stand as a beacon of resistance and care for the womxn community in Uganda. This month’s focus has been on reclaiming space, both virtually and emotionally, through healing, sexual health empowerment, and a celebration of our shared history. We blended a look on inward healing and reaching out for community strength. Despite the persistent challenges of the legal landscape, our commitment to “Queering SRHR” and mental well-being remains the heartbeat of our movement. This February, we also celebrated LGBTIQ+ History Month, reflecting on the journey of the movement in Uganda. We took time to remind our womxn community and encouraged them to learn about the pioneers who built the foundations of womxn organizing, acknowledging that every act of joy and every gathering is a contribution to a history that refuse to be erased. Our 2026 February Wellness Journal served as a daily anchor emphasizing that self-preservation is a political act.  February wellness journal. Womxn’s Leaders’ Virtual Support Circle; Grief and Healing

Leadership in the womxn movement often requires navigating intense professional pressure alongside personal trauma. In the current climate, it often comes with a heavy emotional price. On the other hand, womxn leaders lack dedicated spaces to grief as they are expected to be the pillars for others. Grief is a communal experience and for womxn leaders, the ability to process it is often an indulgence they cannot afford. Following the recent and profound loss of one of our community womxn leader, our womxn leaders were navigating significant emotional distress while at the same time managing the frontline response for their community members they serve. As a way of respect, we convened a dedicated virtual support circle for womxn leaders with the intent o create a “brave space” for navigating the double burden of professional advocacy and personal grief. Providing this safe space was a moment to pause and process grief collectively which was essential for preventing burnout and secondary traumatic stress. This provided an opportunity for womxn leaders to hold each other emotionally, shared healthy coping mechanisms hence strengthened solidarity among womxn partner organizations and maintaining community resilience.

Queering SRHR; Galetines’ Camp; Consent, Safe Sex and Navigating Forced Relationships.

As part of FARUG strategic intervention on Health and wellbeing, SRHR Camps continue to play a vital role in access to SRHR services for womxn in a friendly and non-discriminatory environment through the DIC (Health on wheels). As a love month, it wasimportant to facilitate conversations on safe sex, consent, navigating forced relationships due to social, trend pressures and families which is reportedly contributing to an increase in HIV transmission among womxn community. Our SRHR camp dubbed as ‘Galetines’ camp provided a direct interaction between our professional counsellor and womxn members, an opportunity for the womxn members to know the organization counsellor, explored the concept of consent, safe sex as well creating more awareness on HIV transmission. The camp also was a safe space to distribute SRHR commodities such as menstrual products condoms with the intent to increase access to SRHR services, reduce HIV and other related STI transmissions and built womxn’s agency to make healthy decisions.

We further utilized our platform, Ba Queer Twogere podcast to share our heartfelt messages, dedicating the space to a dear friend, womxn leader whose soul has taught the womxn community that love isn’t just a feeling but an action to live out Loud. The conversation also explored why self love is the blue print for all connections and what it means to truly love without limits. https://youtu.be/2iKRazdCQ14?si=9Xma_IYKvf9BqVm3
