In case you missed, as a reminder, our September Wellness Journal continues to emphasize the importance of prioritizing self-care and being gentle with selves. The overall tone of our September Article is one of resilience and community. It talks about the need for continuous learning and engagement within supportive spaces as we commemorated significant events that shade light to often issues contested, with the aim of creating visibility and awareness. Enjoy.
Suicide Awareness Month; National Suicide Prevention Week.
In commemoration of Suicide Prevention Week, 7th– 13th September, it was crucial that we acknowledge Self-care for womxn as a vital and a proactive factor in suicide prevention that helps to change the narrative from one of inherent vulnerability to one of resilience and empowerment. The theme “changing the narrative” shifted the focus away from suicide as an individual failing and towards the systemic issues that contribute to it, and in commemoration of the National Suicide Awareness month, through our social media campaigns, we recognized the strengths within the womxn community which involves specific self-care practices that directly strengthens their ability to cope with life’s challenges, shifting the focus from state of crisis to one of consistent and supportive action.
Bisexual Awareness week Bisexual Visibility Day 23rd September 2025
In a world that often tries to erase or invalidate bisexuality, the bisexual Awareness Week is always a time to honor the unique experiences, resilience, and contributions of bi+ individuals. Many bi+ individuals continue to face a double-sided sword of discrimination both from the wider world and sadly, within the queer spaces. This bi-erasure that surrounds bisexuality often leads to isolation and feelings of not belonging. The week, 16th to 24th is a call to action to stand as allies and advocates, challenging stereotypes, and supporting bi+ community. Together with the rest of the world, we celebrated Bisexual Visibility Day on 23rd as a day dedicated to acknowledging and honoring the bisexual community, extending a heartfelt message of love and solidarity to the bisexual womxn of Uganda. Their existence is valid, their experiences are real, and their love is beautiful. A a reminder of your worth and a source of empowerment. Let’s continue to support each other, build a stronger community, and create a future where all of us can live openly and without fear.

LBQ Womxn Leaders’ Virtual Support Circle; ‘Self-care as proactive tool for suicide prevention’
While LBQ womxn leaders are increasingly in positions of power, they are also more exposed to conditions like anxiety and depression influenced by the pressures from the community they serve. The virtual support circles provided by FARUG continue to play a crucial part for the mental health and wellbeing of womxn. These virtual safe spaces offer a safe, confidential and affirming environment where womxn leaders can share experiences, receive peer support and develop resilience without fears of judgement. FARUG hosted a virtual support circle on 11/9.2025 dubbed self-care as proactive tool for suicide prevention. This space was designed to equip womxn leaders with proactive self-care strategies as a crucial factor, particularly in light of this year’s Suicide Awareness Month theme; Changing the narrative on Suicide. The space also provided practical, proactive tools, equipping them with evidence based, identity affirming self-care strategies that are practical for busy schedules as well as a dedicated space for peer support and discussion.
We are thrilled to welcome Independent October, a month filled with events set to mark history, as we celebrate the LGBTIQ history month, acknowledging the community, resilience and visibility.
