This month’s article is a blend of updates of direct focus on community, care and resilience and an emphasis on the continued importance of our work in a challenging and dangerous environment. We shade light on the Power of Pride Project on Civic and Political engagement of LBQ womxn in Uganda. Similar to the previous articles, this issue also emphasizes the importance of mental and emotional health of the community we serve.

SAFE SPACE; ‘SAFETY PROTOCOL AND CIVIC ENGAGEMENT FOR WOMXN IN UGANDA’

As part of the organization’s political advocacy strategy to create safe spaces for womxn to participate in actionable civic decision-making platforms, we convened a safe space which was dedicated to critical conversations on civic engagement & Safety protocols. The space is profound at a particularly timely moment as Uganda prepares for the 2026 elections. The Objective of the space was to equip womxn with the knowledge and tools to navigate and implement effective safety protocols during civic and political engagements. The womxn community members collectively developed an actionable safety-first strategy tailored to create safety protocols for their engagement. This participation empowered womxn to prioritize their voice, shifting the narrative from silence to strategy. They carry these strategies to serve as foundational tools to promote proactive safety measures and enhance collective resilience in the face of political adversity

Learning Webinar; Civic and Political Engagement

The civic and political engagement of womxn is not just a call for equal rights but it is a fundamental necessity for building a society that is safer, more just, and more representative for everyone. FARUG continues to strengthen womxn’ activist leadership through providing safe learning spaces for womxn. Following the different learning spaces provided by FARUG on civic and political engagement, FARUG on 30/8/2025 facilitated a learning webinar focused on civic and political engagement for womxn. The webinar provided a safe and empowering online space for womxn who shared key learnings, opportunities and equipped them with the knowledge and tools necessary to become more effective while participating in civic and political engagements especially the forth coming 2026 elections. The webinar also emphasized the importance of womxn’s voices in politics and public policy, strategies for effective advocacy and understanding the political landscape and how to navigate it safely while building coalitions and community.

Bi Monthly Wellness Engagement; “Terikuzikiza,”

The bi monthly virtual engagement is a key part of our ongoing effort to promote mental well-being and create a safe space for womxn members to connect, share experiences, and engage in open conversations. This month’s virtual bi monthly wellness activity, themed “Terikuzikiza,” was dedicated to leveraging insights from the start of the year. The virtual space explored how womxn members maintain their energy until the year-end, what steps they are taking to keep their “fire burning,” and what sustaining this energy looks like for them. The objective of the space was to facilitate conversations that equip womxn members with practical strategies for maintaining high energy and motivation and to foster a sense of community and shared experience among womxn members, reducing feelings of isolation and burnout. The insights gained helped womxn participants design more targeted and effective wellness activities to keep them motivated and to address burnout and other related mental health challenges. Womxn members reported an increased feeling of empowerment and have tangible strategies to combat personal and professional burnout, which also led to increased engagement and positive feedback.

We are excited to announce our upcoming event UGALEF 2025, stay tuned for more information and updates.
